educational Services

Warren County SWCD believes that conservation education is the foundation for all wise land stewards of the future! We strive to educate both young and wise from our classroom programs to our outreach efforts.

Our education staff is here to support environmental education!   Please contact us if you would like us to present small group programs, outdoor programs, or join an online virtual class or meeting to answer questions on environmental science topics!

Melissa Proffitt
Warren County SWCD
Education & Communications Specialist


Melissa earned her BA in Zoology and MA in Biology from Miami University, with a focus on Conservation Education. Her master thesis incorporated entertainment and theatrical elements into education programming to increase engagement and retention of information. She previously was a wildlife educator for a local museum, and presented programs for classrooms and family groups.  Melissa is passionate about working with all age groups and conducts classroom programs, community workshops, scout programs and more! As a workshop facilitator for Ohio Project WILD, Aquatic WILD, Growing Up WILD, and Curious KIDSS, Melissa also collaborates with and provides professional development to other local educators around Warren County.

​Suzanne Geisler
Warren County SWCD
Education Assistant

Suzanne is 
an OCVN (Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalist), and an educator for Warren County Solid Wast District and Water Department.  She loves the outdoors, and hiking with her dogs is her favorite thing! She is also a beekeeper and loves the bees and pollinators. Suzanne maintains a vermicompost bin and is excited to help spread environmental education in Warren County.

Free conservation programs are offered that target Ohio State Standards to aid in your education goals. Our Education Specialists are happy to provide one of these fun and hands-on lessons to your class!

 In addition to traditional in person Education Program options, we also have several live virtual options available through our  Virtual Classroom. Find video lessons, electronic resources, and more!

Our staff can provide programs, workshops and presentations on a variety of science, soil, water and conservation topics to your group of young community members.  We can also help with science fair projects, ideas and implementation!

Warren County SWCD holds a variety of community outreach efforts each year.   We are also available to present on a variety of  conservation topics to your group of adult community members.

scholarship offerings

Warren County SWCD believes in educating the youth of our county in science, soil, water and conservation topics.  We have 2 scholarships offered on an annual basis.

envirothon

The ENVIROTHON is designed to stimulate, reinforce and enhance interest in our environment and our natural resources among high school students.  Warren County SWCD encourages and mentors high school groups with this exciting contest each year.

EDUCATOR WORKSHOPS
​Warren County SWCD offers workshops designed for educators of all grade levels. These workshops provide educators with tools to increase student literacy with scientific methods, team building skills, and critical thinking.
