Thank you volunteers!
This year's sale was larger than ever, which is a wonderful way to get as many native trees and shrubs planted in the area as possible. But it also means more orders to prep and fill! THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped us prepare orders!

Our tree seedling program is an effort in soil conservation and reforestation. We are not a nursery, but we are excited to leverage our cost saving ability as a non-profit government agency and pass it along to homeowners in our area. We are not tree experts so we have had personnel from ONDR’s Division of Forestry review and provide input on the trees we offer to ensure that we are offering locally beneficial choices. Knowing this, homeowners are encouraged to research tree descriptions on their own because our knowledge is often based on the same sources of information that you can find. We also want to remind you that we sell very young tree seedlings. As a result, not all seedlings will survive, which is why we include high counts in each pack to increase survival rates. Thank you for joining us in our conservation efforts, it is a joy to work with you!
CARE OF SEEDLINGS UPON ARRIVAL
Tree seedlings require water and cool temperatures to survive until planted. If you intend to plant the trees within 2 days, keep them in the package in a cool or shaded location.
If planting will be delayed longer than 2 days, open the package and make sure the roots and packing material are damp. Reseal and store the package in a cool place, periodically checking the condition of the trees’ roots. Do not allow the roots to dry out. The longer you wait to plant the trees, the fewer the number that will survive, regardless of the care given in storage. Seedlings take a lot of care and water for a few years. A great tip is to plant the seedlings in large pots and recess the pots in the ground close to your house or a water source. When the seedlings have grown significantly and are hardy, a permanent location can be found and re-planting will be easy! |

Come out and take a stroll through the self-guided trail to see how you can replicate these ideas in your own yard! Located at Warren County Armco Park, 1223 N State Route 741, Lebanon, Ohio 45036, the park is open dawn to dusk and admission is always FREE! Follow signs to the boat dock, and you will see the Solar Pollinator Habitat Discovery Trail on your left. For more info about native plants, visit https://fwcpdoh.com/native-plants. |
The Friends of the Little Miami State Park are volunteers that work hard to for the park! In 2018, after our tree seedling sale it was no different. Volunteers gathered to pot hundreds of tree seedlings to be babied and watered over the next couple years. Once they grow stronger, the volunteers will relocate the trees to an area of the park that is in need of tree cover. Keep up the good work FLMSP!

The Little Miami State Park wouldn’t be what it is without volunteers getting down and dirty! Recently, nine of them descended on 200 empty plastic containers and 200 baby trees & shrubs in Rick Forrester's backyard to pot them up until they can be planted along the trail later in the fall.
After the 2016 Warren Co Tree Seedling Sale initial purchase/potting effort was completed, Warren County SWCD donated an additional 155 unclaimed spare trees & shrubs from the Annual Tree Sale. Rick and volunteers potted these a few days later. Read the full article HERE. |
