great miami river joint board

"A river seems a magic thing.  A magic, moving, living part of the very earth itself..."  Laura Gilpin

Great miami river joint board

Picture

Warren Co Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) currently serves as the administrators/facilitators of the Great Miami River Joint Board of Supervisors (Joint Board).  The Joint Board consists of fourteen Ohio county Soil and Water Conservation Districts along the Great Miami River.  They have come together to form the Great Miami River Joint Board of Supervisors to serve as an instrument for watershed scale conservation planning in the Great Miami River Watershed. The Joint Board will plan and prioritize water quality projects throughout the entire watershed.  The Joint Board will seek out grant funding to work with landowners and other partners to plan restoration and protection projects throughout the Watershed to improve the quality of the Great Miami River. Warren Co SWCD will continue to provide updates as projects develop.

Dominion watershed mini grant has been funded!

Great Miami River Gains National Recognition!

The Joint Board recently sought funding for a floating treatment wetland (FTW) project in the Indian Lake Watershed. Our grant request through the 2016 Dominion Watershed Mini Grant program was approved in October 2016! The FTW is a preventative best management practice that will filter sediment, nutrients and other pollutants before entering the lake at the headwaters of the Great Miami River. It is the goal of the Joint Board and Indian Lake Watershed Project to decrease the amount of sediment and nutrients reaching the lake and the Great Miami River.

The Great Miami River was recently named a National Water Trail System (NWTS) by the Secretary of Interior!  The NWTS program serves to recognize exemplary water trails for the public to explore and enjoy.  The designation includes the Great Miami, Mad and Stillwater Rivers and is the only NWTS designation in Ohio, and one of only 22 in the nation!  Recognition through this program will bring spotlight to the Great Miami River when applying for grants and other funding to increase the enhancement and protection of this great natural resource. To find out more about the NWTS program, visit Nation Water Trail System website.
