Paint recycling

Warren Co residents are now able to recycle latex paint thanks to a service provided by the Warren Co Solid Waste District!

To recycle your unwanted paint simply take it to the collection location at the Warren County Administration Building located at 406 Justice Drive, Lebanon, Ohio 45036.  The drop-off center is located in the rear of the parking lot.  If you have any questions, you can contact the Solid Waste District at 513.695.1209.

Compost tip

Warren SWCD Tip Tuesday: Finished or unfinished compost can be applied as a mulch 3-4 inches thick on the soil surface. Do not incorporate into the soil. Keep compost mulch 2-3" away from plant stems. Nutrients will filter into soil, without robbing nitrogen from the root zone.

Lawn Tip

Mow High, Let it Lie - Get that green lawn you are looking for by mowing it to a height of 3-4” using sharp mower blades. Keeping grass a little taller, will allow it to develop deeper roots and capture more rain water. The taller blades will also shade out some of those pesky weeds! After mowing, try leaving your clippings on the lawn to give your grass the nutrients it needs. Your lawn will break down the grass clipping relatively quickly, and you will save on fertilizer needs.

Bare Root Planting

How to raise a tree from a seedling! Seedlings need a lot of care and water. We suggest you plant your seedling in a large pot (with holes), in the ground, in a location that is easy to reach. If you pick a location close to water or your house, you can properly care for your seedling and then transplant to a permanent location when the seedling has grown and is stronger. Here is a link that has some detailed information about planting your bare root seedling.

Backyard Stream/Creek Management

Stream & Creek Backyard Management Tip - Develop or Maintain the Riparian Zone

Vegetation including grasses, sedges, rush, and forbs that are tolerant or adapted to intermittent flooding or saturated soils are used in the transitional zone between terrestrial and aquatic habitats. The benefits are as follows: Provision of food, shelter, and shade for aquatic, semi-aquatic, and terrestrial organisms.  Improves and maintains water quality by reducing sediments, pesticides, fertilizers, and other materials in surface runoff.
